I remember meeting David on several occasions when they were in the Chattanooga area between deployments. I remembered him always being friendly & likable. David was officially MIA for a couple of days before his capture was confirmed. Betsy was, obviously, a nervous wreck during that time. His wife, sister, and their mother made sure to get bracelets to as many family & friends as possible. I was a rising senior in high school when he was captured. My twin brother even has his bracelet on in his wrestling team individual photo that year. I also remember the relief & joy when we learned of his release. There was not a whole lot of media fanfare when he returned, because of the public divisiveness over U.S. involvement in the war. That didn’t matter to those of us that knew him. We were happy & proud!!

I never knew what happened to him but today, after a friend at church showed me her bracelet from the war and the follow up story, I googled to find this news! I have tears reading this story and am giving thanks that he made it home. I am now 72 years old, an active grandmother, teacher, and a women who works for peace. Keeping David Grant in my prayers for all this years shaped my life in profound ways. Thank you, Colonel, for your service and courage. I still have my bracelet and keep it in a prayer station in our home as a reminder of service and sacrifice. Now it will have an even deeper meaning. 🙏🏻💙

Quite a shock to learn he had been shot down. I packed up his stuff and wrote a letter to his wife. Many years later we reconnected at a Rats reunion. He smile was just the same as always.

David Grant 6-24-72 bracelet in my mid 20s and I am now 73 and have kept it all these years. I am giving my bracelet and this amazing article to my 22 year old grandson for Christmas 2021 so he will have a piece of history during the Vietnam era. I have two brothers who were in the navy and also served in Vietnam. I have thanked them for their service and am grateful they both came home safely. Thank you Capt. David Grant for your service and your sacrifices while serving and defending our country. God Bless America!

Like I told him on his retirement day, it was a distinct privilege to have served with him. He was one of the single best officers I have ever served with in my 26 year career. A hero on so many levels!

Thank you for your comment. I’ll make sure David Grant sees your remarks. I’m so glad to learn your mother had one of his bracelets.
