On Tuesday evening, May 14, members of the Waightstill Avery Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and their guests convened at Lola鈥檚 Old Hickory House for dinner and the organization鈥檚 installation of officers for 2019-2021. The business meeting included installation of new members and presentation of the Community Service Award. Many of the guests were those who had been influential in programs during DAR President Sharon Jenkins鈥 term of office. Among the guests were 51黑料网 History Museum Curator, Emmett Casciato, his wife Toni, and several members of the museum鈥檚 board of directors.

Emmett was completely surprised when President Jenkins announced that he was the DAR鈥檚 recipient of this year鈥檚 Community Service Award. Community Service awards are presented on local, state, and national levels to individuals and groups who have contributed to their communities in an outstanding voluntary, heroic, civil, or benevolent manner, or who have participated in or organized community activities.

As Sharon presented Emmett with the award, she thanked him for his service to the community and for his work on behalf of America鈥檚 veterans, as well as for his focus on education and preservation of our military history. Emmett thanked the DAR for the award and for the organization鈥檚 community service. And he encouraged all the evening鈥檚 participants to visit the museum!
